Dorian and I took a Thanksgiving hike to Table Rock in New Hampshire.  There was snow, it was cold, and it was lovely.   Hiking in the snow is a little tricky especially when it starts to melt a bit (slippery to the max).  The backdrop at the top of the hike is the Balsams Resort near Dixville Notch in northern NH.

Dorian and I have spent our thanksgiving weekend in northern New Hampshire with Nancy and Don. We are staying in a comfortably modernized cabin with snow and wildlife outside.


I have been the victim of many targeted snowball attacks from my uncle Don (the evidence is above). There are quite a few forest trails for evening hikes and strategic snowball fights. Thank goodness for a roaring fire and central heating!

Today there was lots of cooking that resulted in lots of tasty food. There was a candied pecan "neatloaf", a big hit with even the meat-eaters, and brussel sprouts. Persimmon pie for dessert gave our evening a strong finish.

After a very Roman style eating fest we got to watch the flying squirrels stuff their cheeks with seeds at the bird feeder. I'm glad to know everyone is getting fed today!

Sleepy drink

into green tea haze
every sip brings me a dream

There will be a rainy ride home tonight...can the Californian handle it?

It has been drizzling all day in San Diego and it looks to be slowly increasing in intensity as the day goes on.  The wind is a little gusty as well.  I am looking forward to this adventure, but I wonder if my feelings will have changed by the end of my 12.5 mile ride.  I barely remember what it is like to have little puddles in my bike shoes and need to wear clear glasses to keep rain and truck spray out of my eyes.  Update to follow.

When I found these slippers for $3 at the thrift store, I figured my feet ought to be cozy while I'm at my desk.

Sharks in La Jolla Cove!

I went snorkeling on Sunday in La Jolla Cove.  These sharks are leopard sharks and the orange fish is a Garibaldi. I probably won't win any Oscar awards for my film, but you get an idea of how close the sharks get.

the day the power went out...

Today I rode my bike to work which was really handy when there was a power outage across San Diego and I didn't get stuck in traffic. At 5 pm there were thousands of stuck cars because all the traffic lights were out, but it was every bike commuters dream! Wow.
